Inglese, esordisce come attore nel 1986, partecipando fra gli altri a film come 'In the Name of the Father'(Nel nome del padre, 1993) e 'Some Mother's Son' (Una scelta d'amore 1996). Nel 1998 scrive e dirige il fortunato 'Sliding Doors', con Gwyneth Paltrow,una commedia moderna e allo stesso tempo tradizionale.Nel 2001 dirige "Johnny English" interpretato da John Malkovich e Natalie Imbruglia. Nello stesso anno esce "S.y.n.a.p.s.e. - Pericolo in Rete" un thriller ambientato nel mondo dell'informatica.
